The first half of the book focuses on water chillers, while the second half focuses on cooling towers. Every central HVAC cooling system consists of one or more refrigeration machines, also known as water chillers, that collect excess heat from buildings and reject it to the outside air. The water chiller can use either the vapour compression or absorption refrigeration cycles.
